Maybe turn the lamp by the couch around and put a mute-toned color chair (i.e. a muted rose, blue, or in your space maybe even sage green to complement your plants) and a small and skinny round table next to it with a book perhaps. I think it would be a cozy reading spot 🙂
I like people’s ideas for a small seating option for reading, and a large plant, and a small bit of storage like cute shelf/table/bin. I would add to that a rug! Get a rug in a smaller size, with a contrast like a brighter color or a graphic pattern, and maybe even a round or oval shape, but rectangle is good too. Overlap it with big rug by letting it stick out of the nook towards the TV. You could use colors/patterns in the rug to match a throw blanket or pillows, or coordinate with art or wall hanging elsewhere. If you get a big enough plant and/or a small chair, also consider a light that throws some soft light up onto the wall/ceiling behind it (or even in the plant).
I’d actually place the sofa along the wall where your TV is hanging, and move the TV to the opposite wall. The current sofa placement looks awkward to me, with 1/3 of it stuck inside that odd alcove. Obviously I don’t have any measurements — would that work?
I love the coziness of the couch in the nook! I wonder if in the empty nook, you could paint the inside a different color? Or maybe even a muted pattern peel and stick wallpaper?
You could also put an end table that’s super low, like the 6 inch tall one with pillows to sit on the side. (I’m picturing like and indian tea restaurant where everyone sits on pillows?
Love how you’ve set up the tv and media unit and the lighting, Dining table. Not
a fan of that sofa setup. Not at all… it would help to see what the rest of the space looks like.
Though I like the black outline of the alcove the middle black it beam draws your eye there too much.
The space reminds me of the tokonoma in traditional Japanese rooms.
It’s a space to feature some art. Usually decorated VERY sparingly. Like a scroll and a small plant/ floral arrangement. The items displayed are also changed periodically to reflect the changing seasons.
If you want to keep the space for purely decorational purposes, perhaps you can find inspiration in tokonoma.
1) Build bookshelves across the entire span of the pillar. The new custom bookshelves would replace the current bookshelf. In addition, it would hold the television and sound system.
The little nook behind the bookshelf can be used for storage (winter coats, etc.), and to hide the wires of the sound system and tv.
2) I would move the L-shaped sofa to face the new custom bookshelves. The back of the sofa would be towards the dining room table.
3) I would buy a sofa table and place it against the back of the sofa. That way, there sofa table + sofa delineate the living room from the dining room.
Break down the wall and put a refrigerator there with several hooks from the ceiling for storage, but the wall needs to be torn down, however, I do have one suggestion is that usually a hole on the ground is great for entertainment.

A basket with a few nice woollen blankets like [this](https://images.crateandbarrel.com/is/image/Crate/EmlynBasketSHF16/$web_spill_item_mobile_hires$/190411135027/emlyn-basket.jpg).
Plants.
I vote for
1. Nothing. Leave an uncluttered corner for peace of mind and a less “busy” feel
OR
2. A pillow up against the wall so you sit, rest, and get a different perspective on everything. Like a vacation from looking at the TV.
Get a dog or cat. That’s a fine spot for a pet bed.
Reading nook. So you aren’t facing your television.
Very small desk for laptop or bin for storage. You could make a storage bench and have an extra place to sit + have storage underneath.

Edit: spelling
This is just to say I love the feel of this room. I would second a basket or two and/or plants.
A super dope beanbag chair
A beanbag chair might be cool there

Maybe a small electric stove with a little wood rack next to it. I think fire elements are completely underrated in these setups.

I’d be really tempted to knock that column out. My gut says it isn’t load bearing. I wouldn’t trust my gut and I would check first though.
Honestly the couch is too large for the space. Ideally the couch wouldn’t go into that area and I would close it off with curtains for closed storage.
If you feel you must keep it open paint all the trim work around it column included to the wall color to blend it all together.
I’d paint the trim to match the walls. I feel like the dark paint is drawing the eye to the area, making it an awkward focal point.
A low profile lounge chair maybe?
Lounge chair / reading corner and a plant
A small art sculpture, taxidermy or animal statue made of iron 😏

A beanbag and a pillow would make it a perfect reading spot. You have the lamp right next to it which would improve the coziness:)

Im out of ideas what to just put there to give it some fine atmosphere…
Plants with a few nice plant stands can add a little design touch
great setup but those speakers give me anxiety.
Love your space! Where is that table from??
A big plant.
A well lit bar setup and mirror
I would hang a white linen curtain over the opening and use for storage. OR if you were feeling really wild, a pattern with colour.
Is that a philodendron micans I see up on the top right? Beautiful house by the way!

Get a doggo and a doggo bed maybe 🙂
Dog bed with dog
Depending on how you want the noise level and the look perhaps a mini fridge for cold drinks would be nice.
A bar cart
A pet bed
Sex swing.

Nothing! Looks great as is. Enjoy the extra visual and actual space.
Id on table and chairs?
Plant, like a big one, or a beanie bag to hangout on
Can you post some pictures of the angles in this room pls
