I’m always struggling a bit with making this shelf harmonious and balanced. Some cactuses from my housemate just left so that’s why it’s empty at top left. Shelves are adjustable btw. Suggestions welcome!

I think you need more air. The first shelf is a bit too close to the TV, and a lot of the items seems to almost hit the shelf above. I’d take out one of the shelfs, and put the remaining ones further away from each other.

Pay attention to the negative space! Take half the stuff off the shelves, and rotate in your favorite knickknacks. You will find not only that your wall looks better, but also that you appreciate them more if they are not all out at once.
Realtors have a formula for shelves when staging houses. I think it is something like two thirds to one, doodads vs empty space.

Putting the shelves at different heights will let you stack some objects on top of each other, creating different heights of the objects and giving visual interest.

If I walked into this space my first thought would be that it looks great. I’m not sure why you think it doesn’t look harmonious. I love the chair and the whole space gives a really relaxed young vibe.

Storing glasses in the shelf like that doesn’t look very good. Aside from that i think it’s ok!

Also, as someone pointed out, different heights will look good. Especially if you make a little more space on the lowest section imo.

If you need to keep a good amount of the stuff on the shelf create areas of items that are similar. Like put all the glasses together! It makes it easier on the eye when things that look similar together are stored together.

Also I liked the idea of rotating some on the sentimental Knick knacks! You could get some small baskets to hold some stuff and bulk store them together while creating that “space” and more simplistic look you’re aiming for. Honestly the look is there is just need to be cleaned up a bit. Try no more than two types of items per shelf. Example; stack of books and one vase.

I would suggest moving the glasses to the kitchen, the rest is nice

I think this looks very good as it is. But if you want some minor tips without reducing anything from here: try if the tv would be asymmetrically on the right? Same proportioned plants on both sides make it distinctly symmetrical for Scandinavian interior.

Also, the items on the shelves are very evenly distributed. How about having one shelf almost full in some end, then an almost empty next or above it? This way you could have “natural” asymmetry at the shelves. Maybe having all books on one shelf, all glasses on another self, all photos on a third shelf and other items distributed unevenly?

Easy things to try and see how it looks.

There are too many items on the shelf. At least half should find another home, more if you can

Maybe you can create different levels with the shelves!

Where did you get the adjustable shelving? Living in a very space limited room next year and need good minimal storage 🙂
