Cabin Renovation project, Scandinavian inspired

Hello everyone,

I posted here a while back about a cabin I was purchasing and planning to renovate. That cabin didn’t pan out and I faded away. That is until three weeks ago when I took possession of this little gem.

My wife and I are beginning our renovation and will be introducing a Scandinavian inspired look. I will be posting updates from time to time on this project. I suspect it will take about a year to get where I want to be based on the fact that it is three hours from my house and budget.

I have to replace the giant sliding windows on each level for great cost so the focus of our renovation right now is paint, furniture and lighting. I’m going for whites, cool greys and slate blues to balance out some of the brown.

Not the greatest photos but you get the idea. 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath. 720 square feet.

Renovation to do’s include:
New patio windows – Big dollars! ugh

Both bathrooms gutted and redone.

Paint master and main area.

Furniture

Lighting

Expand bottom deck, wire railings.

Completely redo small kitchen. This will be next year due to $$$.

Cabin renovate

Your input is much appreciated and I will try to answer questions.

This is super cool. Not sure if you’re in the states, but if so what state is this in? Also are you planning to live in this full time, or is it more of a getaway?

From the pictures I really like the layout and size of it so much potential. Definitely keep us updated!

I’d love to be updated as well. Can I ask why you’re loyal to the brown walls and trim? This could very well be a design-difference between you and me but the photos make me feel as if the brown is so murky and dark. Or is it just the photos? Scandinavian design is everything light and life-affirming so if you want your getaway bungalow to reflect that carefree elegance, keep the house light. I understand that you may be bummed that you’re putting off your kitchen remodel until next year but I think in time you’ll be overjoyed for having had that time. I would even wait on the furniture for a spell. The more you use your cabin the more confident you can be in finding the perfect light fixture (dimmers because you like the cabin to feel like candlelight at night?) and the perfect kitchen set-up. For all you know, you don’t want a kitchen island if you decide you and your wife are going to be happy hermits in this place and not entertain. All of these small decisions of putting your personal preferences first will make this your perfect retreat.

P.S. I don’t know if you can afford landscaping this summer but think on planting some lovely flowers to wake up to in the morning! This would be a good start to a retreat. 🙂

Really nice! In terms of the exterior it already looks like falu rödfärg. Some white accenting and you’ve got a Swedish wooden house. 🙂

This a dream. I can envision myself on those balconies drinking my coffee everyday! In for the update, absolutely thrilling location and has a huge potential!
